Cookbooks and Recipes have changed over the years.

Does anyone have any thought on how they have changed? I will post my thoughts later.Technorati tags:

Your Blog has some great ideas though I'm not sure about zucchini and chocolate. Maybe I will try it to see.

The name sounds funny, but it is just a name. They have more than the zucchini and chocolate combination.
Thanks,
Tami

Hmmm, I think that food has changed for the good and for the bad. In some ways, we eat healthier these days. I definitely feed my family healthier than my mother fed me. We eat more organic (more is available) more fruits and vegetables, leaner meats. Less packaged items. As a kid, dinner was Hamburger Helper, or Kraft Mac N Cheese. Sometimes pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy and canned peas.

On the other hand, time is at a premium, and so few people actually eat well. Hamburger Helper is now advertising as a "home cooked meal" and the idea isn't the food as much as the result: instant family togetherness. When I was a kid, there were two flavors of Pop Tarts, and now there are at least ten. And the food panders to childrens' palates: oversugared, artificially flavored and colored.

For the record, I am the Mean Mommy and I don't buy any of that stuff.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. You have given me a great idea for a post. I will link back. ;)

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I appreciate the link back. I am so glad to here that you have turned it around for your kids. I have noticed when I have eaten Hamburger Helper one of my brother's former favorites that it is quite salty tasting. My mom worked when I was young, so that is the reason I started cooking and baking from an early age. She did not have time to prepare meals from scratch and we often ate fast foods. The school system in America is failing our kids in England Jamie Oliver has really changed the way the kids are eating. They are eating fresher and organic foods and are really enjoying it. This sets kids up to make healthier choices in the future and gets them to eat their fruits and vegetables.
Thanks,
Tami
